In today’s digital environment, being narrowly specialized in just one thing isn’t better than having solid knowledge across various topics. I believe curiosity is the main driver of learning new skills. Think of skills and experiences as the ingredients that create “dots” on your mental mind map. Connecting the dots is what brings people forward—and the closer the proximity of these dots, the better you understand a topic and the more creative and solution-minded you become.

This is exactly why being a jack-of-all-trades is so valuable today. The old cliché “jack of all trades, master of none” is no longer a negative; it is a badge of honor to be worn with pride. Modern business requires versatile thinkers—people who combine real business acumen in finance, risk, and project management with a strong foundation in digital skills. You no longer need to memorize every snippet of code by heart to build a solution, but understanding the logic behind why models work the way they do is more imperative than ever.

I’ve spent the last 20+ years of my career working in sales and finance, with over 15 of those years in finance and risk. About 8 years ago, my interest in automation, statistics, data visualization, and data storytelling was ignited—fueled by small everyday business puzzles that needed a solution. It started with low-code tools like Alteryx, Power Query, and Power BI, which fit my initial goal of delivering quick, working solutions to the business. As requirements grew and my curiosity expanded, I moved into Python and SQL. That laid the foundation for building fully automated databases where data flows seamlessly and translates into the exact insights stakeholders need to see.

With the arrival of AI and its ever-growing possibilities, I began integrating its power to take data-enabled decision-making to new heights. Naturally, my “jack-of-all-trades, dot-connecting” portfolio expanded, driven by a constant curiosity to solve puzzles and make things better.

Over the years, I’ve built end-to-end data platforms using SQL, Power BI, Python, and Databricks. On the digital side, this required hands-on experience in data engineering, data architecture, visualization, and data science; on the business side, it drew on credit risk management, accounting, portfolio management, and project delivery. If there is one thing I’ve learned across all of it, it’s that data is the underlying thread that stitches everything together. No right answer can exist without the backing of data—because without it, it’s nothing more than a lucky guess.
